Financial Planning for Interior Designers

EP 174 | Financial Planning for Interior Designers with Brad Clinard

podcast

Are you truly in control of your interior design business finances — or just reacting to them?

In this episode, Kimberley Seldon is joined by financial planner Brad Clinard to discuss why understanding your finances is essential for creating stability, reducing stress, and building a stronger future for both your business and personal life.

Many interior designers avoid financial planning because it feels overwhelming or intimidating. Brad shares practical strategies for getting organized, understanding your numbers, and creating a financial roadmap that supports long-term success and peace of mind.

In this episode, we learn:
• Why creating a financial plan helps interior designers navigate change and uncertainty
• How unresolved loss and financial stress can impact decision-making and well-being
• Why knowing your key financial metrics is critical for business success
• How getting organized improves confidence and financial clarity
• Why every business owner needs a written financial plan
• How small, consistent savings habits create long-term stability and freedom
• Why understanding your finances gives you greater control over your business and life
• How financial awareness helps interior designers build more profitable and sustainable businesses

Design Intervention

“Follow Your Bliss” is Brad’s best advice and it’s a concept from Joseph Campbell, a professor of mythology and George Lucas’s mentor. Some business owners focus on the money they want to make, but that’s not the best way to run a business. Instead, start by thinking about the life you want to have and your calling to impact others. Build Your Life and Your Business Around Following Your Bliss.
